Ile d'Oléron manages to offer more
activities than you'd think possible on such a compact chunk of land. The
most southerly of France's Atlantic islands, Oléron is sometimes called
the Island of Mimosas.
Atlantic rollers are made for surfers, beaches perfect for sunbathing. Roman remains, fortified cities, farmers' markets and rustically inspired residences overlooking a the ocean, warmed by the Gulf Stream, a magical place worth to visit! Take a walk in the ancient pine and oak forest of Saint Trojan and escape the summer crowds, or stroll along the marina at Boyardville, and enjoy a "pineau des charentes" with oysters as the sun sets over the Atlantic horizon.
